Kazakhstan's archers finished their campaign at the fourth stage of the World Cup in Madrid without medals in individual or team events. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
In individual events, Ilfat Abdullin, Adel Zhexenbinova and Viktoriya Lyan advanced the furthest among Kazakhstani athletes, reaching the 1/16 finals.
In men's recurve, Ilfat Abdullin won his first two rounds but lost in the 1/16 finals to three-time Olympic champion Kim Je-deok of South Korea (1-7).
Dastan Karimov exited after a dramatic shoot-off against Spain's Diego Conde Colyar. The match ended 5-5 in sets, and both archers scored 10 points in the deciding arrow, but the Spaniard's arrow was closer to the center.
Dauletkeldi Zhanbyrbay also lost in the first playoff round, falling to Israel's Itay Shanny (2-6).
In women's recurve, Alexandra Zemlyanova started with a win over American Catalina Gnoriega (6-2). In the next round, she lost to Britain's Penny Healy in a shoot-off after a 5-5 tie, with Healy winning the deciding arrow 9-8.
Samira Zhumagulova defeated compatriot Alina Timraliyeva 6-4 in the first round but then lost to Chinese Taipei's Chiu Yi-ching (1-7).
Medina Murat lost to Georgia's Gvantsa Archvadze (2-6).
In men's compound, two Kazakhstani archers advanced past the first round. Dilmukhamet Musa beat Hong Kong's Lee Hu Sam Patrick 146-145 but then lost to Netherlands' Sil Pater 144-149.
Andrey Tyutyun started with a win over Britain's Luke Davies 147-144 but lost to China's Shi Jingyu 146-150 in the next round.
Buned Mirzametov lost to Turkey's Eren Kırca 144-146. Akbarali Karabayev lost to Japan's Naoki Komoto by a narrow margin of 145-146.
In women's compound, Adel Zhexenbinova beat Mexico's Miranda Cisneros Villa 147-144 but lost to Britain's Ella Gibson 145-146 in the 1/16 finals.
Viktoriya Lyan also reached the 1/16 finals. She first beat Malaysia's Aina Syazwana Abdul Muhaimin 144-143 but then lost to Spain's Alexa Misis Olivares 139-146.
Diana Yunusova lost to Netherlands' Jessie van den Munckhof 144-145. Roksana Yunusova lost to Turkey's Defne Çakmak 143-148.
In team events, the best result came from the women's recurve team. Murat, Zemlyanova and Zhumagulova first beat Azerbaijan in a shoot-off (5-4) but lost to Ukraine 1-5 in the 1/8 finals.
The men's recurve team (Abdullin, Karimov, Zhanbyrbay) lost to Brazil 0-6 in the first playoff round.
In the mixed recurve event, the duo of Abdullin and Zhumagulova lost to the Netherlands 2-6.
In men's compound team, Musa, Karabayev and Tyutyun first beat El Salvador 236-230 but lost to Denmark 229-238 in the 1/8 finals.
The women's compound team (Roksana Yunusova, Zhexenbinova, Lyan) lost to Chinese Taipei 232-235. In the mixed compound event, the duo of Musa and Zhexenbinova lost to France 153-155.
The fourth stage of the Archery World Cup is being held in Madrid, Spain, from July 7 to 12, with 392 athletes competing. Ten sets of medals are at stake.
At the third stage of the World Cup in Turkey, Kazakhstani archers also failed to reach the decisive matches in any of the ten disciplines.
