In Kazakhstan, the share of women who marry and give birth for the first time after the age of 40 is growing. In 2025, almost 5,000 Kazakh women over 40 married for the first time, and women in this age group gave birth to more than 16,000 children. These data are provided by the Bureau of National Statistics. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

In 2025, 4,900 women over 40 registered a marriage for the first time. Compared to 2021, the figure increased by 5.7%. The share of such brides among all women marrying for the first time rose from 4% to 5.5%.

According to Finprom analysts, most women who married for the first time after 40 belong to the 40–49 age group — 3,600 people. Another 1,100 Kazakh women registered their first marriage after 50. At the same time, about 200–300 women of retirement age enter their first marriage every year.

A similar trend is observed among men. The share of grooms over 40 among all men marrying for the first time grew from 5% in 2021 to 5.9% in 2025.

At the same time, the absolute number of such men decreased: from 5,700 in 2021 to 5,300 last year, or by 7.3%.

The average age of first marriage in Kazakhstan is now about 28 years for men and 25.2–25.3 years for women.

At the same time, the age of dissolution of first marriage is changing. In 2021, men divorced on average at the age of 38.8, and women at 37.3. By 2025, these figures had fallen to 36.2 and 34 years, respectively.

This means that by the age of 40, there are more people on the marriage market who have already been married and could potentially enter a second union.

In 2025, about 10,600 men over 40 who had previously been married registered a marriage again. The 40–49 age group accounted for 6,600 people.

Among women, the dynamics are more noticeable. The number of divorced Kazakh women over 40 who remarried grew from 6,600 in 2021 to 7,500 in 2025, that is, by 14.5%.

The number of remarriages among women aged 40 to 49 increased especially — from 4,300 to 5,100 people.

Not only first marriage but also childbirth is happening later. The average age of a woman at childbirth rose from 29.4 years in 2021 to 29.9 years in 2025. In cities, it already exceeds 30 years.

In 2025, women over 40 gave birth to 16,300 children — 2.5% more than in 2021. Another 148 children were born to women over 50.

The share of children born to women over 40 increased over four years from 3.6% to 4.9% of the total number of newborns.

At the same time, about 1,300–1,500 first-born children are born annually in Kazakhstan to women over 40. Significantly more children in this age group are second and subsequent: in 2025, 14,400 were born.

At the same time, the fertility rate among women aged 40–44 generally declined: from 24.5 per 1,000 women in 2021 to 22.4 in 2025.

In the 45–49 age group, the indicator, on the contrary, grew — from 1.4 to 1.9 per 1,000 women.

There is a significant difference between regions. In 2025, the lowest fertility rates among women aged 40–44 were recorded in North Kazakhstan Region — 10.7, Kostanay Region — 12.2, and Akmola Region — 16.1.

The highest rates were noted in Kyzylorda Region — 32.9, and Mangystau Region — 31.6 per 1,000 women. Thus, the BNS statistics show several changes at once: the share of women entering marriage for the first time after 40 is increasing, the number of remarriages among divorced women of this age is growing, and the share of children born to women over 40 has also noticeably increased in recent years.

Earlier, Kursiv wrote that in 2026, 74,648 marriages were officially registered in Kazakhstan.
