The Bureau of National Statistics has published the statistical compendium "Number and Wages of Employees in the Republic of Kazakhstan" for 2025. The document shows how salaries and jobs were distributed across the country's regions. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to the report, the total wage fund for employees in Kazakhstan at the end of last year exceeded 20.4 trillion tenge. The country had 90,541 enterprises, with a payroll number of over 4 million people. Actually, 3.8 million people were employed in the economy. Of the total payments, 8.8 trillion tenge went to women.
The largest volume of salaries is traditionally concentrated in the country's largest cities. The absolute leader is Almaty, where the wage fund reached 3.56 trillion tenge. Astana follows with 2.47 trillion tenge. In fact, the two megacities accumulated over 6 trillion tenge, or nearly one-third of the country's total wage mass.
Among regions, high indicators persist in oil-producing areas. In Atyrau region, employers paid 1.28 trillion tenge, and in Mangystau region – 1.21 trillion tenge.
Almaty also leads in the number of employees – the actual number of workers there was 534,200 people. In Astana, this figure reached 347,000 people.
High concentration of labor is also observed in Karaganda region, where 261,200 people work, and in Turkestan region – 261,900 people.
Although small enterprises form a large part of the economy, the main wage burden falls on large companies. Large businesses accounted for 11.14 trillion tenge of the wage fund. Medium-sized enterprises paid 5.24 trillion tenge, and small businesses – 4.05 trillion tenge.
Country economist of the Asian Development Bank in Kazakhstan, Gennady Rau, previously told Kursiv that in 2026, real incomes of Kazakhstani citizens could grow. This will depend on the success of the government and the National Bank in fighting inflation and economic growth.
