Should you buy a car in Kazakhstan before the end of the year or wait? There is no clear answer yet: prices are influenced by exchange rates, import costs and demand. According to OLX Kazakhstan, the average cost of popular used models in September ranged from 6.6 million to almost 8 million tenge. Company analysts named the factors that could change prices in the coming months. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

Most expensive models

Among the models reviewed, the Changan CS75 Plus was the most expensive: its average cost was almost 8 million tenge. The Changan CS55 Plus was valued at 7.8 million, and the Kia K5 at approximately 7.5 million tenge.

The average price of the Toyota Camry 70 reached 7.7 million tenge, while the older Camry 50 could be found for an average of 6.6 million tenge.

Benchmarks, not fixed prices

However, these are benchmarks, not fixed prices. For example, a Changan CS55 Plus with 20,000–34,000 km on the odometer was listed from 6.2 million to 9.3 million tenge. For the Kia K5, the difference between the two OLX examples was almost 900,000 tenge: 7.9 million and 7 million. The cost is affected not only by the model and year of manufacture, but also by mileage, condition and trim level.

Import costs

One of the main factors is the cost of importing cars. Customs payments, taxes, the utilization fee and primary registration form the final expenses. If they increase, this may also affect the price of the car for the buyer.

Exchange rates

Exchange rates are no less important. A weakening tenge raises the cost of purchasing cars abroad, although listings on the secondary market do not react to such changes immediately. Sellers may list cars purchased earlier, while competition and demand limit price growth.

Tax changes

Another point is changes in taxation. In 2026, Kazakhstan provides for a 10% excise tax on passenger cars worth from 18,000 MCI, or 77.85 million tenge. This applies to expensive cars and does not mean an automatic rise in price for mass models costing 5–10 million tenge.

Market forecast

According to OLX's assessment, additional costs may have a stronger impact on the prices of imported cars. In the secondary market, supply will determine much. If new cars become less affordable, some buyers may switch to used cars, increasing demand for popular models.

Advice for buyers

Those looking for a car before the end of the year should compare several listings and take into account not only the price in the ad but also the full cost of purchase. When choosing a used car, it is also important to check its technical condition and service history.
