The capacity of three main oil refineries in Kazakhstan will be gradually increased. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the plan, the capacity of the Atyrau Oil Refinery will increase from 5.5 million tons to 6.5 million tons per year. The capacity of the Shymkent Oil Refinery will be increased from 6 million tons to 7.5 million tons per year. The capacity of the Pavlodar Oil Refinery will reach 6 million tons per year, up from 5 million tons.
These projects are expected to be implemented between 2026 and 2030. Modernization includes updating the technological equipment of the plants and improving product quality. As a result, it is planned to reduce the shortage of petroleum products on the domestic market and increase export potential.
Within the framework of the strategy for developing Kazakhstan's oil refining industry, increasing the capacity of the three plants is aimed at strengthening the country's energy security and reducing dependence on imports. The sources of financing necessary for the implementation of the projects have already been identified.
