In Kazakhstan, 19 million tons of coal were transported by rail from May 1 to August 17, 2026, as part of preparations for the heating season. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the Ministry of Transport, this figure is at the same level as the corresponding period last year. Of the total, 17.8 million tons were sent to supply the country's thermal power plants, and another 1.2 million tons to the municipal and household sector.
Currently, the regions have formed the necessary reserves of solid fuel. More than 300 thousand tons of coal have been accumulated in the municipal and household sector, and 4.1 million tons at thermal power plants.
The ministry noted that a set of measures is being implemented to ensure stable and timely transportation of coal during the upcoming heating season. According to official data, Kaztemirtrans JSC has 29 thousand gondola cars to ensure the required transportation volumes. The available wagon fleet makes it possible to meet the needs for transporting solid fuel to thermal power plants, the municipal and household sector, and industrial consumers.
