In the second quarter of 2026, the number of employed people in Kazakhstan reached 9.4 million. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

According to the Bureau of National Statistics of the ASPR RK, 7.3 million of them were hired workers, and 2.1 million were self-employed.

Trade leads

The largest number of Kazakhstanis works in trade – accounting for 16.8% of all employed. This is followed by education (13.3%), industry (12.4%), agriculture (10.5%), transport and warehousing (7.1%), construction (6.8%), and healthcare and social services (6.6%).

Growth dynamics

Compared to the second quarter of 2025, the number of employed people increased in several sectors. The largest growth was recorded in real estate operations – by 37,000 people. In education, the number of employed increased by 31,100, and in healthcare – by 21,200 people.

Growth was also seen in the arts, entertainment and recreation (increase by 15,100 people), professional, scientific and technical activities (by 7,700), and financial and insurance activities (by 7,400 people).

Earlier, the head of the employment department of Almaty stated that there is an imbalance between the expectations of job seekers and the offers of employers.
