Snow, icy roads and winds of up to 30 metres per second and more are expected on 8 October in eastern Kazakhstan. Frost is forecast at night in three regions, while rain and thunderstorms are expected in the North Kazakhstan region. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The information was released by Kazhydromet. A storm warning has been declared in most regions of the country.
Cyclone impact
A cyclone will bring rain to the north, the centre of the country and the mountainous areas of the south-east. In the East Kazakhstan region, rain mixed with snow and ice are expected at night in the east, while precipitation will continue during the day in the east and in the mountains.
"Across the republic, strengthening winds, fog, and at night in the east – ice are expected," the forecast says.
Strongest wind gusts
The strongest gusts – up to 30 metres per second and more – are forecast during the day in the Abai and East Kazakhstan regions.
In the Akmola region at night and in the morning, in the North Kazakhstan region at night in places and during the day, as well as during the day in certain districts of the Pavlodar and Karaganda regions and the Ulytau region, gusts will reach 23–28 metres per second.
In Petropavlovsk, rain, thunderstorms and winds of up to 23–28 metres per second are expected. In Kokshetau, daytime gusts will reach 23 metres per second, while in Pavlodar, Karaganda and Zhezkazgan they will reach 15–20 metres per second.
In the Aktobe, Turkestan and Kyzylorda regions and the mountainous areas of the Zhambyl region, winds will strengthen in places to 15–20 metres per second.
In Astana, winds of up to 15–20 metres per second are forecast, with occasional gusts of up to 23 metres per second at night and in the morning.
Frost and fog
At night in the north of the Almaty region and in the mountains of the Turkestan region, frost of down to minus 1 degree is expected on the soil surface. In the north of the Zhetisu region – down to minus 2 degrees.
Fog is forecast in the mountainous areas of the Almaty and Zhambyl regions, the Zhetysu region, as well as in places in the East Kazakhstan, Karaganda, Mangystau, Atyrau, West Kazakhstan and North Kazakhstan regions and the Ulytau region. In Aktau and Uralsk it is expected at night and in the morning.
Fire danger
Extreme fire danger remains in the Kyzylorda region, in the west, south and centre of the Aktobe region and the Ulytau region, and in the south of the Atyrau region. The warning is also in effect in Kyzylorda, Zhezkazgan and Atyrau.
High fire danger is forecast in the Atyrau region, in the centre of the Mangystau region, in the west, south and east of the West Kazakhstan region, in the east of the Almaty and Aktobe regions and the Zhetisu region, in the north and centre of the Kyzylorda region, and in the south of the Kostanay region.
Earlier, forecasters promised Kazakhstanis that after the first snow, the republic would sharply warm up to +27 degrees.
