The Ministry of Energy has developed a long-term plan for the development of the electric power industry. According to the plan, the phased commissioning of new generating capacities is planned for 2028-2029. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
Plans for 2028
In 2028, it is planned to commission 2 GW of traditional generation. The following projects are envisaged under the plan:
- 01construction of combined-cycle gas units in the cities of Taraz, Atyrau and Aktobe;
- 02construction of unit No. 3 of Ekibastuz GRES-2;
- 03construction of a boiler and turbine unit at the "Qaragandy Energocentr" enterprise;
- 04installation of a boiler and turbine unit at the "Kazakhmys Energy" BTPP;
- 05installation of a boiler and turbine unit at the "Kazakhmys Energy" CHPP;
- 06expansion and modernization of the power unit of Aksu GRES.
Plans for 2029
In 2029, it is planned to commission 2.3 GW of traditional generation. This includes:
- 01construction of a turbine unit and boiler unit at Ust-Kamenogorsk CHPP;
- 02commissioning of five gas turbine units at Atyrau CHPP;
- 03construction of two gas turbine units of "Batys Power" LLP;
- 04commissioning of CHPPs in the cities of Kokshetau, Semey and Ust-Kamenogorsk;
- 05commissioning of the first unit of Ekibastuz GRES-3.
Renewable energy
In addition, the ministry noted that renewable energy is also developing. In 2028, it is planned to commission 2.2 GW, and in 2029 — 2.8 GW of renewable energy source facilities.
"Due to the implementation of large projects in traditional and "green" energy, Kazakhstan's generating capacity will increase significantly, and in 2029 the energy system is expected to reach a stable surplus," the Ministry of Energy noted.
