According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the number of people entering into legal marriage and starting a family in Kazakhstan is declining. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to Finprom.kz, about 116,000 marriages were registered in Kazakhstan last year. This is the lowest figure in recent years. It is 10% less even compared to the figure during the 2020 coronavirus pandemic.
In January-July of this year, the number of marriages also decreased. Compared to January-July 2025, the figure fell by 1.3%.
An analysis of prices for goods and services needed for a wedding in Almaty was conducted, and the minimum and maximum budget was calculated for three options. They are: simple marriage registration, a small wedding, and a large wedding for 300 people.
Economy option
The economy option is without any celebratory events or ceremonies, only official marriage registration. In this case, at least 128,300 tenge will be spent on clothes, the bride's bouquet, wedding rings, photo and video shooting.
Small wedding
The second option is a small wedding for approximately 50 guests. Its cost reaches from 325,000 to 1.2 million tenge. The amount depends on the number of guests, the chosen menu and types of services. Companies offer mobile buffet, banquet, picnic-barbecue and other formats. This calculation does not include the bride's dress, the groom's suit, additional expenses and the rental fee for the wedding venue.
Large wedding
The most expensive option is a large wedding for 300 people. The minimum cost of such a wedding is about 8.7 million tenge. This amount would be enough to pay a 30% down payment when taking out a mortgage for a 50-square-meter apartment. And the maximum cost reaches 45 million tenge.
Moreover, according to data from September of this year, the cost of services of popular toastmasters in Kazakhstan reaches 8 million tenge. Including this expense, the premium version of a ceremonial wedding for 300 people could become more expensive, reaching up to 57.8 million tenge. With this money, one could buy a spacious apartment or purchase housing without a mortgage.
