Kazakhstan is proposing to reduce the cost of marking tobacco products. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The Ministry of Finance has submitted for public discussion a draft order under which the price of one control mark and identification means may decrease from 2.68 to 2.66 tenge.
The State Revenue Committee believes this will reduce market participants' costs for marking.
"The purpose of adopting the draft is to reduce the tariff burden and apply an objective and financially justified tariff for the services of the Single Marking Operator for participants in the circulation of tobacco products," the document says.
The Ministry of Finance also notes that the change should not affect the operation of the marking and traceability system for tobacco products.
Discussion of the draft, published on the open NPA portal, will last until October 5, 2026.
Marking is a special digital code applied to a cigarette pack. It can be used to determine where and when the product was produced or imported, as well as to track its path to sale.
Such a system helps the state control the circulation of tobacco products, identify counterfeit goods and stop the sale of cigarettes without paying the necessary taxes.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that Kazakhstan set a record for cigarette exports. Between January and March 2026, the country exported tobacco products worth $42.5 million.
