Production of cheese and cottage cheese in Kazakhstan increased by 28%, the national statistics bureau reported. In January-May 2026, Kazakhstan produced 25,700 tons of cheese and cottage cheese. This is 28% more compared to the same period last year. Production volume increased by 5,600 tons. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

In January-May of this year, Kazakh producers exported about 900 tons of cheese and cottage cheese to foreign markets. Domestic products are in steady demand in Russia, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia, the statement said.

Due to the increase in domestic production, imports of cheese and cottage cheese decreased by 9.2% compared to the same period in 2025, statisticians said. The domestic market shows a steady increase in demand. In the five months of 2026, sales of cheese and cottage cheese amounted to 41,400 tons, up 11.2% from the same period last year.

As of June 2026, the average retail price of cottage cheese in Kazakhstan was 2,457 tenge per kilogram. The lowest average price was recorded in Petropavl – 1,661 tenge per kilogram, and the highest in Zhezkazgan – an average of 3,060 tenge per kilogram.
