Beeline Kazakhstan and Starlink Mobile are launching satellite mobile connectivity through Direct to Cell technology. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The announcement was made by the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development. The technology allows users to access certain communication services via smartphone in areas where there is no terrestrial cellular network.
Agreement reached during presidential visit
In the autumn of 2025, during the official visit of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to the United States, Kazakhstan reached an agreement to introduce Starlink Mobile (Direct to Cell) satellite connectivity.
"Today we see that this agreement is being actually implemented," said Deputy Prime Minister — Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan Zhaslan Madiyev.
First country in Central Asia
According to him, Kazakhstan became the first country in Central Asia where Direct to Cell technology was practically tested and has now been launched as a service for users.
The technology does not require a special satellite phone, an external antenna or additional equipment. A compatible smartphone can connect directly to Starlink Mobile satellites.
Users are given the ability to send and receive messages, as well as use basic internet services, in areas where the terrestrial mobile network is completely absent.
Free during promo period
For Beeline Kazakhstan clients, the service is offered free of charge during the promo period.
"Satellite connectivity complements terrestrial mobile infrastructure and expands connectivity in remote areas, on suburban roads and in mountainous terrain. To connect, the absence of a terrestrial network and favourable conditions for establishing a connection with the satellite are required," the statement says.
The service may be useful for tourists, residents of remote settlements, road and utility service workers, and specialists working outside settlements.
How to use the technology
At the current stage, the service can be accessed through compatible devices running the Android operating system. In the future, support for other operating systems is planned to be expanded.
To use the service, users need to update the Janymda app to the latest version, activate the Starlink service in the app and enable data roaming in the phone settings.
If there is no terrestrial connection, the satellite network can be selected manually: Beeline Starlink. In some cases it may appear as 401 04.
