Today Kazakhstan is celebrating the Day of the Kazakh Tazy for the first time. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the Ministry of Ecology, on this very day, September 3, 2024, the International Cynological Federation (FCI) provisionally recognized the Kazakh Tazy and approved international standard No. 372. Thus, Kazakhstan was recognized as the country of origin of the breed.
As noted by the ministry, the Tazy, which has lived alongside the Great Steppe for centuries, now represents Kazakhstan at world exhibitions. Currently, about 4,000 Tazy dogs are registered in the Unified Pedigree Book.
The ministry also said that much work lies ahead to preserve the genetic fund of the Tazy, its natural and working qualities, and to pass on the national breed to future generations.
