In Katon-Karagay National Park, a snow leopard has been fitted with a satellite collar for the first time. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

Specialists first tranquilized the snow leopard. The first collar wearer was named "Altai". This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan.

"Using the satellite collar, specialists monitor the direction in which Altai moves, which territories it inhabits, and how far it migrates. These data are necessary for studying the life of the snow leopard and planning its protection efforts," the park's official statement said.

The snow leopard is a rare predator, and studying its population and distribution is an important part of ecological monitoring. The satellite collar allows for the collection of accurate data on the animal's movements.
