The Agency for Protection and Development of Competition has completed an analysis of the sugar market in Kazakhstan. According to the results of 2025, 70.4% of sugar on the domestic market was imported, while 29.6% came from domestic production. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
This indicates that the sugar industry's dependence on imports persists. The analysis also revealed an imbalance between the development of the raw material base and processing capacities, as well as the need to strengthen control over exchange trading and monitor sugar re-exports.
"Based on the analysis results, the agency issued 9 notices to entities selling sugar wholesale on signs of violating antimonopoly legislation," the agency reported.
Additionally, recommendations were sent to state bodies to develop domestic production and the raw material base, introduce long-term contracts, and reduce the domestic market's dependence on imports.
