The weighted average rate on loans that Kazakh banks issued to individuals in tenge rose to 21.64% in July 2026. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

A month earlier, it stood at 20.86%. This means that in just one month, the cost of new loans for the population increased by approximately 0.78 percentage points. This is stated in the data of the National Bank.

The statistics take into account the weighted average rate calculated based on the amount of loans issued directly during the reporting month. The indicators for individuals also include loans to individual entrepreneurs.

Dynamics of rates on loans to individuals

In July, the average rate on tenge loans to individuals reached 21.64%. The dynamics of recent months have been mixed. In May, the indicator was at 22.66%, after which it dropped to 20.86% in June. However, already in July, the rate rose above 21% again.

The most expensive among those presented in the statistics were short-term loans with a term of up to one month. The average rate on them in July was 24.35%. In June, it was at 24.92%, and in May it reached 26.54%.

For loans with a term of one to three months, the rate in July was 19.33% versus 19.20% a month earlier. Loans with a term of three months to one year were issued at an average of 22.12%. In June, the rate was 21.12%, meaning it rose by about one percentage point over the month.

The cost of loans to individuals with a term of one to five years remains high. In July, the weighted average rate on them was 24.78%. In June, the indicator was at 22.97%, and in May it was 25.80%. Thus, after the June decline, the rate rose noticeably again.

A different dynamic was observed for loans with a term of over five years. In July, they were issued at an average of 15.26% versus 15.73% in June and 15.23% in May.

The weighted average rate on tenge loans to legal entities in July, on the contrary, continued to decline. It amounted to 19.56% versus 19.80% in June and 20.30% in May. Compared to May, the decrease reached approximately 0.74 percentage points.

For business loans with a term of up to one month, the rate in July was 20.14%. In June, it was at 20.86%, and in May – 21.13%. For loans from one to three months, the indicator decreased from 20.62% in May to 19.92% in June and 19.76% in July.

Loans with a term of three months to one year were issued to legal entities in July at an average of 18.92%. A month earlier, the rate was 19.17%, and in May – 19.57%.

For tenge loans to legal entities with a term of one to five years, the rate in July was 22.57%. In June, the indicator was at 22.18%, in May – 23.32%. For loans with a term of over five years, the rate decreased more noticeably: from 19.47% in May to 19.43% in June and 18.19% in July.

As a result, the average cost of new tenge loans for businesses in July turned out to be lower than for the population. For legal entities, the indicator was 19.56%, while for individuals – 21.64%. The difference reached approximately 2.08 percentage points.
