From December 1, 2026, all electric vehicle charging stations (EVCS) in Kazakhstan will fall under mandatory state control. The Ministry of Trade has obligated station owners to regularly verify the accuracy of devices that measure dispensed electricity. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

The corresponding order was signed by the Minister of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Currently, the cost of charging an electric vehicle directly depends on the volume of energy delivered (in kilowatt-hours). If the meter at an EVCS is inaccurate or operates with an error, the driver overpays for nothing.

«With the introduction of new requirements, measuring instruments used at electric charging stations to account for dispensed electricity must comply with established metrological requirements and undergo verification in a timely manner,» the ministry's press service said.

At the same time, electric car owners will gain a legal guarantee of correct calculations and protection from unscrupulous EVCS operators. And the owners and operators of EVCS themselves, from December 1, will be obliged to regularly verify measuring equipment at their own expense and obtain official supporting documents. The use of unverified meters will be prohibited.

The Ministry of Trade emphasized that the introduction of new rules became necessary due to the explosive growth in the number of electric vehicles and charging stations across the country.

Earlier, electric car owners on social media engaged in a dispute with owners of internal combustion engine vehicles.
