President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a law ratifying the agreement between the Government of Kazakhstan and the United Nations on the establishment of a UN Regional Center for Sustainable Development Goals for Central Asia and Afghanistan in the country. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

The document provides for the official creation of a regional center in Kazakhstan, which will work on achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals in Central Asian countries and Afghanistan. The head of state also signed a law ratifying the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Kazakhstan and the UN concerning the activities of this center.

Both laws will enter into force after official publication. The texts of the documents will be published in print. It is expected that the UN Regional Center will become a platform for coordinating joint projects, exchanging experience, and developing solutions in the fields of economy, ecology, social policy, and other areas.

Earlier, the UN issued a frightening forecast for the Caspian Sea for the next 50 years. Scientists believe that global warming and intense evaporation will cause the sea to shallow for another half century.
