Kazakhstan has confirmed its first laboratory-verified cases of seasonal flu. The capital and the Mangystau region became the first areas of the country where the infection was detected. Laboratories identified the A(H1N1) flu in five patients. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to the Ministry of Health, three flu cases were detected in Astana and two in Mangystau. In total, 834 laboratory samples were tested, of which five returned a positive result.
ARVI incidence fell by 10.2%
At the same time, the incidence of acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI) in the country has fallen by 10.2% since the start of October. Over the week, more than 127,000 ARVI cases were recorded in Kazakhstan, compared with more than 140,000 a week earlier. In total, more than 760,000 people have fallen ill with ARVI since the beginning of September.
What other infections are circulating
Besides flu, Kazakhstanis are currently contracting other respiratory infections. According to laboratory data, the most common are rhinovirus (68 confirmed cases), bocavirus (50) and seasonal coronavirus (47). Doctors also regularly record parainfluenza, adenovirus and other cold pathogens typical of autumn in patients.
Health Ministry advice on vaccination
The Health Ministry advises getting vaccinated in October, as the body needs about two weeks to develop immunity. The ministry notes that a vaccine does not always protect against infection 100%, but it should protect against a severe course of the disease and complications.
Doctors also ask people not to forget basic rules: wash hands more often, regularly ventilate rooms and stay away from people who are sneezing and coughing.
Flu vaccine delivered to Kazakhstan
Recall that on October 2 it became known that a flu vaccine had finally been delivered to Kazakhstan. Kursiv wrote that the Health Ministry purchased more than 2 million doses of the Russian-made Grippol vaccine.
