Construction of a plant for the production of extruded fish feed has begun in Kazakhstan. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The project, implemented with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture, has an annual production capacity of 25,000 tons. It is aimed at developing the aquaculture sector, reducing import dependence, and increasing the potential of domestic production.
According to the ministry, commercial fish production in Kazakhstan is steadily growing. In 2025, the country raised about 23,000 tons of fish, of which nearly 4,000 tons were trout. In 2026, production is planned to increase to 64,700 tons.
The annual feed demand of fish farms in the country is about 72,000 tons. Although most of the demand is met by domestic production, dependence on imports of high-protein feed remains. High-tech feed for commercially valuable fish species such as trout and sturgeon is not yet produced in Kazakhstan.
The new plant will meet the demand in this area and provide aquaculture enterprises with quality products.
