From October 10, 2026, Kazakhstan has brought into force rules for the labeling and traceability of biologically active food supplements. The document regulates the application of digital codes to packaging, registration of products and accounting for their movement from manufacturer or importer to buyer. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Requirements for consumer packaging
A two-dimensional DataMatrix GS1 code suitable for scanning must be applied to the consumer packaging of supplements. The marking must be affixed in such a way that it cannot be removed without damage.
Obligations of manufacturers and importers
Manufacturers are required to mark supplements before the first transfer of the goods for further sale. Importers — before import into Kazakhstan or before placing products under customs procedures for release for internal consumption or re-import.
Registration in the digital system
Market participants must register in the digital system for labeling and traceability of goods. Manufacturers and importers also register the supplements themselves: information about the composition of the product card is entered into the system, including the name, country of production, form of release, shelf life and certificate of state registration.
Transport packaging and traceability
The document provides for combining individual packages into transport containers while maintaining the link between codes. This makes it possible to track the movement of products without opening the boxes.
Requirements for retail sale
During retail sale, the seller must scan the code on the packaging with a device connected to a cash register. Information about the code is included in the cash receipt, and information about the sale is transmitted to the labeling system.
If the buyer returns a marked product, the rules provide for its re-introduction into circulation with the transfer of the relevant information.
Unmarked remaining stock
Unmarked supplements produced before the date of introduction of mandatory labeling may be sold until the expiry of their shelf life. If desired, market participants may mark such remaining stock voluntarily.
Stages of implementation
At the same time, mandatory labeling of supplements from the established list was introduced from September 1, 2026. The entry into force of the rules on October 10 and the launch of full traceability from March 1, 2027 are separate stages of the system's implementation.
Verification tool
The Naqty Onim application works to verify labeling. Buyers can scan the DataMatrix code on the packaging and receive information about the product. If the labeling is absent, damaged or cannot be read, this can be reported through the application.
