Over 4.5 million women are employed in various sectors of Kazakhstan's economy. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
In the first quarter of 2026, the number of employed women in Kazakhstan amounted to 4,527.1 thousand people. This is 42.6 thousand people or 0.9% more compared to the same period last year.
Of these, 3,602.0 thousand people (79.6% of the total employed women in the economy) were employees, and 925.1 thousand people (20.4%) were self-employed.
The largest share of employed women is traditionally concentrated in education. This sector employs 902.2 thousand women, accounting for 19.9% of all employed women.
Second is wholesale and retail trade – 877.6 thousand people (19.4%), third is healthcare and social services – 426.3 thousand people (9.4%).
Also, 388.1 thousand women (8.6%) are employed in industry, and 351.2 thousand women (7.8%) in agriculture, forestry and fisheries.
By region, the highest growth in the number of employed women was observed in Karaganda region (+7.8%), Aktobe region (+6.5%), Almaty city (+6.3%) and Turkistan region (+6.1%).
The number of employed women among the urban population was higher than in rural areas. In urban areas, the number of employed women amounted to 3,008.5 thousand people.
