Storm warnings for 17 October were declared in 17 regions of Kazakhstan. Forecasters predict snow, ice, dust storms and strong wind. At night in the Zhetisu region the temperature will drop to −8 degrees, according to the Kazhydromet forecast. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

Atmospheric fronts and anticyclone

Atmospheric fronts will bring precipitation to the north, east and far west of the country. In the remaining regions, an anticyclone will keep the weather precipitation-free.

Zhetisu and Almaty regions

In the Zhetisu region, frosts of −3…−8 degrees are expected at night, in Taldykorgan — down to −6…−8 degrees.

"On 17 October in the Almaty region, frosts of 1-6 degrees are expected at night," forecasters said.

In Konaev, the temperature will drop to −1…−3 degrees. In Almaty, such frosts are expected on the soil surface. In the west and east of the Zhambyl region, down to −2 degrees is forecast at night. Frosts will also affect the north of the Kyzylorda region.

Eastern and northern regions

In the north and east of the East Kazakhstan region, snow will fall at night, and rain with snow during the day. Ice is expected. In the Abai region, such precipitation and ice are forecast during the day in the west, north and centre.

In the North Kazakhstan region, including Petropavlovsk, rain with snow will fall at night. Ice is possible in the south of the region. In all three regions, wind gusts will reach 15–20 metres per second.

Western regions

In the west, south and centre of the West Kazakhstan region, light rain is expected, and during the day — a thunderstorm and dust storm. The wind will strengthen to 15–20 metres per second.

Dust storms are forecast in the west, north and south of the Atyrau region, in the west, north and centre of the Mangystau region, as well as in the east and centre of the Kyzylorda region. They will affect Atyrau and Kyzylorda. Wind gusts in these regions will reach 15–20 metres per second, in Atyrau — 15–18 metres per second.

Strongest wind

The strongest wind is expected in the Zhambyl region: at night and in the morning in the south-west, north-east and in the mountains, gusts will reach 23–28 metres per second.

In the Turkestan region, Shymkent and Turkestan, the wind will strengthen to 15–20 metres per second. The same gusts are expected in certain districts of the Akmola and Pavlodar regions, as well as in Aktau. In the Aktobe and Karaganda regions, wind speed will reach 15 metres per second.

Fog

Fog is forecast in the West Kazakhstan, East Kazakhstan, North Kazakhstan, Akmola, Kostanay, Karaganda and Pavlodar regions, the Abai and Ulytau regions, as well as in the mountains of the Zhambyl and Turkestan regions. In most regions it is expected at night and in the morning.

Fire danger

Extreme fire danger persists in most of the Kyzylorda region, in the west, south and centre of Aktobe, in the south and east of Atyrau, in the west of the Karaganda region, as well as in the west, south and centre of the Ulytau region.

High fire danger persists in the remaining districts of the Atyrau region, in the centre of Mangystau, in the west, south and east of West Kazakhstan, in the east of the Aktobe region and the Zhetisu region, in the north of Kyzylorda and in the south of the Kostanay region.

Earlier, Kazhydromet warned that at the weekend Kazakhstanis would be surprised by a sharp change in the weather.
