Kazakh tennis players Zangar Nurlanuly and Damir Zhalgasbay failed to reach the quarterfinals of the junior Wimbledon 2026. After losing today, our juniors, following the adult representatives of Kazakh tennis, leave the tournament. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Nurlanuly conceded defeat after 1.5 hours in his quarterfinal match against Vincent Raizach – 3:6, 6:7 (3:7). The German also led in aces 5:1 and in total points won 74:59. The Kazakh was not helped by Raizach's 24 unforced errors against his own nine.
Zhalgasbay, who lost in singles the day before, also failed to reach the quarterfinals in doubles. Partnered with American Jack Secord, he lost to the Latvian-Romanian duo Richards Neimanis/Matei Todoran – 4:6, 6:4, 8:10. The outcome of the tense match was decided by a super tiebreak.
38-year-old Yaroslav Shvedova suffered her second defeat in the veterans' exhibition tournament at Wimbledon. The two-time Grand Slam champion (Wimbledon 2010 and US Open 2010), paired with regular partner Vania King from the USA, lost to Canadian Eugenie Bouchard and Estonian Anett Kontaveit – 2:6, 4:6.
The Wimbledon Championships 2026 are taking place in London from June 29 to July 12. It is the third Grand Slam tournament of the season and the only one on grass.
The prize fund is £64.2 million. Champions and finalists in singles will receive £3.6 million and £1.8 million respectively.
The reigning Wimbledon champions are Italian Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek. Sinner, defeating German Jan-Lennard Struff (74) 7:5, 7:6 (7:4), 6:3, advanced to the semifinals, where he will face Serbian Novak Djokovic (8). Swiatek was eliminated in the third round.
