Kazakhstan's men's volleyball team lost 0:3 (16:25, 21:25, 15:25) to tournament hosts India in the opening match of the 2026 Asian Men's Volleyball Nations Cup, which started in India. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

Kazakhstan, having missed the first match day according to the schedule, entered the competition last among all 11 participating teams. The Indians, who had beaten New Zealand in three sets the day before, confidently started the match against our team. The packed stands of the Vir Samarkar Sports Complex in Ahmedabad cheered their team's success in the first set – 25:16.

In the second set, the Kazakhs managed to put up a fight. Almost catching up with the opponent at the end of the set – 20:22, Sergei Trikoz's charges, unfortunately, played poorly in the finish – 21:25. The third set was similar to the first. Our guys simply failed it.

Tomorrow, Kazakhstan will play against Australia, on June 23 against Chinese Taipei, on June 25 against Bahrain, and on June 26 against New Zealand. The minimum task is to finish no lower than second in the group and advance to the semifinals.

In the parallel group, passions are running high. In the first rounds, the outcome of matches was decided in the fifth set twice. Favorite South Korea started the tournament with a rout of Indonesia – 3:0.

The Asia-Pacific Nations Cup, formerly known as the Challenge Cup, is being held for the fifth time. The dozen teams were split into two groups of six during the draw, but at the last moment, Turkmenistan withdrew from the tournament.

After a round-robin tournament, the top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals. The remaining teams will compete for places 5th through 11th. The tournament will conclude on June 28.

In 2024, the Kazakhstan national team finished fourth at a similar tournament in Bahrain, losing the bronze medal match to South Korea – 1:3.

Last week, the Kazakhstan women's team finished fourth at the Asian Nations Cup held in the Philippines.
