Kazakhstan's youth football team lost to Moldova 2:3 in their final Euro 2027 qualifying match. Vladimir Cheburin's side led 2:0 but conceded the decisive goal in the 90th minute and finished the campaign in last place in Group D. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

Kazakhstan opened the scoring in the 13th minute. Saif Popov put the visitors ahead after an assist from Magzhan Toktybay. In the 38th minute, Miras Omatay doubled the lead.

Before the break, Moldova pulled one back. In the 43rd minute, Vasile Luciță scored after an assist from Sergei Turcan. At the end of the first half, Luciță was sent off, but soon after the break the teams were level again: in the 50th minute, Omatay received a second yellow card.

In the 72nd minute, Turcan equalized – 2:2. Three minutes later, Kazakhstan were down to nine men after a second yellow card for captain Sultan Askarov. Moldova capitalized on the numerical advantage late on: in the 90th minute, Turcan completed his brace and secured victory for the hosts – 3:2.

Fifth defeat under Cheburin

Thus, Kazakhstan U21 suffered their fifth consecutive defeat under Vladimir Cheburin. Before the trip to Nisporeni, the team lost to England – 2:4 and to Ireland – 3:4. Moreover, in Cork the Kazakhs also scored three times but conceded the decisive goal late on.

Qualifying results

After ten qualifying matches, Kazakhstan collected four points: one win, one draw and eight defeats with a goal difference of 11:21. The youth team finished the cycle in last, sixth place in Group D. Before the final round, Moldova were two points ahead of Kazakhstan, so the Kazakhs needed a win to avoid finishing bottom.
