The backpack of a deceased man, whose body was brought down on August 19 from the Severtsev glacier, located at an altitude of about 3,400 meters in the mountains of the Almaty region, was recognized by the daughter of a climber who went missing 19 years ago. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Almaty resident Anastasia Akhmetova wrote about this on Facebook. She told the continuation of the shocking story of how her friends, tourists from Belarus, found the body in the mountains.
In the comments, users wrote that the found man could probably be identified by the equipment in the photo.
"Such backpacks were common in the late 90s and early 2000s, with a heavy metal frame. This means the body lay in the mountains for about 20 years," social media users suggested.
A few hours later, the presumed daughter of the missing climber, Nelly Mikheeva, contacted the author of the post.
"After 19 years, my dad's remains were found. In the morning, my friend sent a post with a photo of a backpack that looked so much like ours. Later, my husband sent me the same post. I contacted the Ministry of Emergency Situations, they gave me the phone number of the rescuer who brought down the body, and also the investigator's number. He asked to send all photos and documents. Then he called back and said that they found an ID card in the backpack in my father's name," the girl said in her stories.
She sincerely thanked the tourists who could not pass by the man's body, bloggers and media for spreading the information, as well as rescuers and police officers.
Earlier, Kursiv reported how an emergency helicopter brought down the body of a deceased man from a height of 3,400 meters, which was reported to rescuers by climbers from Belarus.
Details of the Incident
The Severtsev glacier is a popular spot among climbers, located in the high-altitude zone of the Trans-Ili Alatau. Difficult conditions and avalanche danger often lead to tragic incidents. In this case, the preservation of the body over a long period could have been facilitated by the low temperatures on the glacier.
Role of Tourists
Belarusian tourists discovered the body and immediately informed rescuers. Thanks to their actions, the family was able to get an answer to a question that had been waiting for 19 years. This case highlights the importance of citizen activism in searching for missing people in the mountains.
Identification Process
According to Nelly Mikheeva, she recognized her father's equipment as soon as she saw the photo of the backpack. Thanks to the prompt actions of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and investigators, identification was carried out quickly. The ID card found in the backpack became key evidence of the deceased's identity.
Public Reaction
On social media, this story received wide resonance: many expressed condolences to Nelly Mikheeva and highly appreciated the tourists' act. Some users expressed the opinion that the system for searching for missing people in the mountains needs improvement.
Rescue Operation
The crew of the emergency helicopter successfully carried out the operation to bring down the body in difficult mountain conditions. Experienced rescuers and climbers were involved in the operation. Safety measures were strictly observed during the descent.
Family's Gratitude
Nelly Mikheeva expressed gratitude to everyone who provided assistance, and special appreciation to those who found her father's remains. She noted that this event has become one of the most important in her life.
