An attempt to illegally transport tobacco products across the Kazakhstan border was thwarted, according to the National Security Committee. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
On June 8, at the Karasu automobile checkpoint in Zhambyl region, cigarettes intended for illegal transport were confiscated. "360,000 packs of cigarettes were hidden in a secret compartment of a truck and were to be illegally brought into Kazakhstan. The value of the seized products exceeds approximately 180 million tenge," the committee said.
The confiscated goods have been handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation. Since the beginning of the year, a total of 93 illegal border crossing attempts have been recorded, with a combined value of 386 million tenge.
