Kazakhstan's women's team has won a silver medal at the chess olympiad for the second time in a row. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
This year's tournament was held from 16 to 27 September in Samarkand (Uzbekistan). Around 400 teams took part in the men's and women's competitions, setting a record figure.
Decisive round against Poland
In the decisive 11th round of the 46th Chess Olympiad, Kazakhstan faced Poland. Elnaz Kalikhmet won her game, while Bibisara Assaubayeva and Meruert Kamalidenova drew with their opponents. Alua Nurman suffered her first defeat of the tournament.
The match ended 2:2. With this result, Kazakhstan collected 18 points and took second place among 189 women's teams. China became champion, while India took third place.
A historic achievement
Another notable feature of this result is that Kazakhstan's women's team finished a chess olympiad without a single team defeat for the first time. The national team won seven matches and drew four.
It is worth noting that Kazakhstan also won silver at the 2024 Olympiad in Budapest. Now, two years later, the team repeated that result in Samarkand.
