Russia increased tomato imports from Kazakhstan twofold in January-June compared to last year, reaching $20.7 million. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The agency also recorded positive trends in cabbage imports: demand from Russia increased by about 1.5 times, reaching $6.2 million.
"However, the country significantly reduced potato purchases: imports fell fivefold, amounting to only $183,700," the report said.
A slight negative trend was also recorded for cucumbers: supply volumes in monetary terms decreased by 6.4% compared to the same period last year, reaching $8.6 million.
Russia is one of the main vegetable markets for Kazakhstan. Thus, during the reporting period, the country accounted for 99% of Kazakhstan's tomato exports, 95% of cabbage exports, and almost all cucumber exports.
However, Russia's share in potato exports was insignificant - about 1%. This is because Kazakhstan exports potatoes mainly to neighboring Uzbekistan, whose share is 81%.
