Kazakhstan's teams have completed their performances in the rugby sevens tournaments at the Asian Games in Japan. The women's national team, defeating India 15:5, took fifth place. The men, having lost today to Singapore and Thailand, finished in 10th place. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

Men's team: started with a win, ended with defeats

Kazakhstan's men's rugby sevens team began the consolation tournament well, beating neighbors Uzbekistan 35:7 the day before.

Today things did not go our team's way. After taking a 7:0 lead against Singapore (a try by Danil Tur plus a drop goal by Nikita Ivanov), the Kazakhs seemed to hit a wall. They lost the first half 7:12, and after the break could not get back into the game – 7:22.

In the second match of the day, our rugby players suffered an equally frustrating loss to Thailand – 5:14 (a try by Roman Shcherbakov). And they took the final tenth place.

The girls played both of today's matches brilliantly. Tries converted by Amina Tulegenova (twice) and Anna Melnikova, plus drop goals by Baizhan Koishibayeva, brought the Kazakhs victory over Malaysia – 17:7.

In the match for 5th place, our girls left no chance to the Indian national team – 20:0. Tries by Anzhelika Pichugina, Irina Tychinina, Tulegenova and Melnikova were supported by accurate goal kicks from Koishibayeva.

Achievements in Asian Games history

Our women's rugby team also has two bronzes: Incheon 2014 and Jakarta 2018. Kazakhstan's men's team has never won Asian Games medals.
