Kazakhstan has proposed that China increase purchases of Kazakh grain and oilseeds, including for the formation of strategic reserves. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, this issue was discussed at a meeting between Vice Minister Nazgul Khatipova and the head of China's State Administration for Food and Material Reserves, Liu Huanyang.
The meeting took place within the framework of Kazakhstan's participation in the 8th China Grain Trade Conference.
By the end of 2025, the trade turnover of agricultural products between Kazakhstan and China grew by 36.8% and reached $1.97 billion.
"China is one of Kazakhstan's key strategic partners in the agricultural sector. Geographic proximity, complementarity of economies and steady growth in food demand create a solid foundation for further expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation," noted Nazgul Khatipova.
Kazakhstan also proposed expanding the list of mutual supplies. The parties discussed prospects for Chinese investment in storage and processing of agricultural products, as well as the development of agrologistics.
As a result, the parties agreed to continue work on the proposals and to interact more actively between the relevant government agencies and businesses of the two countries.
Separately, Khatipova met with the governor of China's Hunan province, Mao Weimin. They discussed the development of cooperation in the field of food security.
The Chinese side also proposed expanding scientific and technical cooperation and exchange of experience between Kazakhstan and Hunan.
The day before, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev outlined key areas of cooperation between Kazakhstan and China.
