All automobile checkpoints on the Kazakhstan-China section of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) customs border will be closed on June 19, 2026. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the Russian Federal Customs Service, the temporary border closure is due to the celebration of the Duan Wu national holiday in the People's Republic of China. This holiday, also known as the Dragon Boat Festival, is one of the most important and ancient festivals in China.
List of automobile checkpoints to be closed: - Bakhty (Abai Region) - Maikapshagai (East Kazakhstan Region) - Dostyk (Zhetysu Region) - Nur Zholy (Zhetysu Region) - Kolzhat (Almaty Region)
Railway checkpoints Dostyk and Altynkol (Zhetysu Region) will operate as usual around the clock. According to the Federal Customs Service, checkpoints on the Russia-China border in the area of the Far Eastern Customs Administration will not change their operating hours on June 19.
The Duan Wu Festival is a traditional Chinese holiday celebrated annually on the fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar calendar. It is known for dragon boat races and eating zongzi (rice dumplings).
