Kazakhstan plans to increase oil production to 60 million tons in January-August of this year. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
At a meeting of the headquarters for economic growth of the republic, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Serik Zhumangarin, the plan to increase oil production volumes was discussed.
However, in January-July 2026, oil production in Kazakhstan decreased by 9% compared to the same period in 2025 – to 53 million tons. One of the main reasons for the decline was attacks by Ukraine on the infrastructure of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC).
In July, Ukraine attacked tankers near the CPC three times. The last attack occurred on July 30, resulting in two tankers being damaged. In early August, there were also obstacles due to warnings about attacks by Ukrainian drones on oil loading at the Consortium's terminal. This was reported by Reuters, citing sources.
Oil production in Kazakhstan also declined in early 2026 (compared to production in 2025) due to the situation at the CPC (when the Armed Forces of Ukraine attacked its facilities at least six times) and a fire at Tengiz.
It is worth noting that 80% of Kazakhstan's export oil is pumped through the Caspian Pipeline Consortium's oil pipeline. This indicator determines the main direction of the country's oil exports.
