Kazakhstan prioritizes expanding its resource base, increasing oil production efficiency, localizing production within the country, and deep processing of hydrocarbons in the development of its oil and gas sector. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
This was stated by Vice Minister of Energy Yerlan Akbarov at the "Oil and Gas" – KIOGE-2026 exhibition and conference.
According to him, approximately 80 exploration and appraisal wells are planned to be drilled in the country in 2026. In 2027–2028, this figure is planned to be increased to 120 wells annually.
"The ministry has formed a portfolio of 45 projects using artificial intelligence technologies. In addition, a domestic system has been introduced that allows online monitoring of more than 4,000 oil wells," said Yerlan Akbarov.
This system will reduce well downtime by 20%.
Also, five- and ten-year offtake contracts are being introduced in Kazakhstan to develop the oil and gas engineering sector. This is aimed at creating long-term and stable demand for domestic producers.
The KIOGE-2026 exhibition and conference is attended by more than 500 companies from 62 countries.
