According to Ookla, the global average mobile internet speed in May this year was 113.16 Mbps. The United Arab Emirates topped the global ranking, reports Energyprom.kz. The UAE is followed by Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Brazil. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan ranked 56th out of 101 countries in mobile internet speed in May. The average mobile internet speed in the country was 88.11 Mbps, which is 25.05 Mbps below the global average.

Mobile internet speed in Kazakhstan has been declining since the beginning of the year. In January, the figure was 100.2 Mbps, in April 89.16 Mbps, and in May 88.11 Mbps. Kazakhstan also lost its position in the global ranking: 50th in January, 49th in February, 51st in March, 52nd in April, and 56th in May.

Neighboring countries also saw their rankings decline. Uzbekistan fell from 76th in January to 77th in May, while Kyrgyzstan dropped from 77th to 82nd.

Since the beginning of the year, mobile internet speed has also decreased in major cities of Kazakhstan. In Almaty, the figure dropped from 148.06 Mbps in January to 120.67 Mbps in April and 115.55 Mbps in May. The city also fell in the global ranking: from 60th in January to 77th in April and 84th in May. In Astana, the average mobile internet speed decreased from 146.09 Mbps in January to 120.24 Mbps in April.
