In Ashgabat, Kazakh Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev held talks with Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

One of the main topics of the negotiations was the development of trade and economic cooperation. It was noted that in the first four months of 2026, bilateral trade increased by 6.8% to approximately $180 million.

"In accordance with the instructions of the heads of state, the parties confirmed their readiness to bring this figure to $1 billion," the Foreign Ministry's statement said.

The ministers highly appreciated the results of the 14th meeting of the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural-Humanitarian Cooperation, held on June 24, 2026 in Astana, and noted its important role in promoting joint projects.

Following the talks, a Cooperation Program between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan for 2027–2028 was signed.
