On October 15, Kazakhstan and Russia will conduct the first test shipment using the e-CMR electronic international consignment note. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The Eurasian Economic Commission reported this. The test shipment is organized within Kazakhstan's Transport Week.
This is the first practical stage of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) project to convert paper documents in international freight transport to electronic format.
Key advantages of the e-CMR system
- 01**Faster inspection procedures:** information is transmitted instantly between the consignor, carrier and consignee. Border checks are also accelerated.
- 02**Reduced costs:** expenses of entrepreneurs and regulatory bodies for document processing and freight transportation are reduced.
- 03**Increased security:** the risk of loss or damage of paper documents is reduced. It becomes possible to track cargo status in real time.
Project progress
The project was launched in December 2024. Based on the results of the first trip, the system is planned to be introduced on other routes of the union.
The first results of the experiment will be reviewed by the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission in December 2026.
The successful testing of the e-CMR system will pave the way for abandoning paper documents in international road transport between EAEU countries and simplifying the cargo processing procedure.
