Kazakhstan and Gazprom have signed a supplementary agreement to the gas supply contract and plan to discuss a long-term contract before the end of the year. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The announcement was made by Deputy Energy Minister Kairkhan Tutkyshbayev on the sidelines of the TNF-2026 international industrial and energy forum.
"We have signed a supplementary agreement to the contract. I think we will discuss the long-term contract before the end of the year," he said.
No problems on gas issues
According to Tutkyshbayev, there are no problems between the two countries on gas issues.
"Russia remains a strategic partner for us; we have no problems on gas issues," he added.
Kazakhstan plans to buy 11 billion cubic metres of gas in 2026
The deputy minister said Kazakhstan plans to buy 11 billion cubic metres of gas from Gazprom in 2026, and is discussing the supply of 9 billion cubic metres next year.
"The volume is being discussed. This year our large fields had minor technical faults. And last year, say, we received 4 billion, this year 11 billion," he said.
Speaking about volumes for 2027, the deputy minister stated they amount to approximately 9 billion cubic metres.
OPEC+ obligations
Tutkyshbayev said Kazakhstan is trying to fulfil its obligations under the OPEC+ agreement.
"We participate in all OPEC+ meetings. The issue of leaving the organisation is not currently on our agenda," the deputy minister said.
