Due to environmental problems, the level of Lake Balkhash is decreasing and water quality is deteriorating. Specialists from Kazakhstan and France have created a joint working group to develop measures to save the lake. The plan includes efficient use of water resources, reduction of pollution, and preservation of biodiversity.

The French side offers experience in water resource management. Kazakh scientists and ecologists adapt the measures taking into account local conditions. Support from international financial organizations is being considered for the project's implementation.
