During a working visit to Luxembourg, Kazakhstan's Prosecutor General Berik Asylov signed a cooperation agreement with the European Public Prosecutor's Office. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The parties can now create joint investigation teams to investigate international crimes. The agreement was the result of a meeting between Berik Asylov and the head of the European Public Prosecutor's Office, Laura Kövesi.
During the negotiations, they discussed combating transnational crime, protecting citizens' rights, as well as searching for and returning assets obtained through criminal means. The document provides for the exchange of operational information, the creation of joint investigation teams, cooperation on extradition issues, as well as the search, seizure, and confiscation of criminal proceeds.
In addition, Berik Asylov met with the Prosecutor General of Luxembourg, John Petri. The parties discussed joint efforts to combat crime, mutual legal assistance in criminal cases, and the exchange of experience between the prosecutor's offices of the two countries.
"Thus, Kazakhstan and Luxembourg confirmed their readiness to expand cooperation in all areas of mutual interest," the Prosecutor General's Office of Kazakhstan noted.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that Kazakhstan and the European Union had completed negotiations on draft agreements on visa facilitation and readmission.
