As of today, the agreement on mutual recognition and exchange of driver's licenses between Kazakhstan and the United Arab Emirates has come into force. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

According to the agreement, citizens of Kazakhstan temporarily staying in the UAE can use their national driver's license. In case of moving to permanent residence, they can exchange licenses for category "B" (passenger cars) and subcategory "B1" (three-wheeled vehicles and quadricycles) without passing theoretical and practical exams.

Citizens of the UAE who have moved to permanent residence in Kazakhstan also have the right to exchange their licenses under the same procedure.

Documents required for exchanging a driver's license: - valid national driver's license; - valid residence permit; - official translation of the residence permit (in the UAE – into Arabic, in Kazakhstan – into Kazakh or Russian); - document confirming a medical examination.

The national driver's license is not confiscated. After the exchange procedure is completed, the competent authorities of the two states notify each other about the procedure performed.

The simplified procedure applies only to category "B" and subcategory "B1". Exchange of driver's licenses for other categories is carried out in accordance with the legislation of the host state.
