Kazakhstan will build a cargo terminal in Iran. This was announced by Minister of Trade and Integration Serik Zhumangarin. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the minister, the terminal is necessary for access to the Persian Gulf. The project will increase Kazakhstan's export potential. The location and capacity of the terminal are still being clarified.
Zhumangarin noted that through this terminal, Kazakhstan will be able to reach the Persian Gulf via Iran, and then the markets of Southeast Asia and Africa. Currently, a feasibility study for the project is being developed.
This initiative is aimed at developing Kazakhstan's transit potential. The government plans to strengthen cooperation with Iran. The commissioning date of the terminal is not yet known.
