Kazakhstan's team won five gold medals at the 56th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO). This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The Olympiad was held from July 4 to 12 in Bucaramanga, Colombia, with 381 students from 85 countries participating. The young Kazakh physicists demonstrated a high level of preparation and won five gold medals. This is the best result in Kazakhstan's history of participation in IPhO.
Gold medalists: - Nurgul Yegenbergenova – 11th grade student of NURORDA school-lyceum in Astana; - Amirbek Azatbekov – 12th grade student of NIS (natural sciences and mathematics) in Astana; - Ilyas Kazymbek – 12th grade student of Spectrum International School in Astana; - Roman Cheremnov – 12th grade student of Miras International School in Almaty; - Damir Kurman – 11th grade student of NIS (natural sciences and mathematics) in Astana.
This historic achievement was the result of systematic preparation of the national team over three years. The team was trained by school teachers, mentors, and national team coaches. The preparation was led by Gulia Nurbakova, PhD, senior lecturer at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The coordination of the national team's work at the International Physics Olympiad was carried out by Samat Maksutov, PhD, senior lecturer at SDU, and Alisher Yerkebayev, prize-winner of international physics olympiads.
It is worth noting that the International Physics Olympiad has been held since 1967. Kazakhstan has been participating in this intellectual competition since 1997.
