Kazakhstan and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) have agreed to develop digital competencies. The documents signed in Doha will open the way for young Kazakh specialists to work at the ITU. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

The agreements also provide 100 free study places for participants from African countries. In Kazakhstan, this will give a practical impetus to the creation of an ITU Acceleration Center.

The agreement on Kazakhstan's accession to the ITU Junior Professional Officers (JPO) programme was signed by Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development Jaslan Madiyev and ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin.

"Kazakhstan plans to support the programme with a contribution equivalent to 0.6 contribution units. Kazakh telecom operators assisted in allocating these units. The programme will allow young Kazakh specialists to gain practical work experience at the ITU, interact with international experts and participate in the organization's initiatives," the ministry said.

The second document provides 100 free study places for participants from African countries. Another practical step is a letter of agreement between the ITU and CAREC on developing and validating the model of the ITU Acceleration Center in Kazakhstan.

The agreement on establishing the center was signed by Kazakhstan's Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development and the ITU on July 5, 2026. This will help adapt global methodologies to specific tasks and develop cooperation not only in Kazakhstan but also in Central Asia.

Kazakhstan and the ITU have begun implementing the agreements and plan to outline the next steps for launching the programmes.
