Kazakhstan will borrow about 490 billion tenge from international banks. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the borrowed funds will be directed to implement a number of infrastructure projects in 2026-2027. Specifically, projects in road construction, energy, and water supply will be financed.

The total loan amount is 490 billion tenge. Major creditors include the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, and the Islamic Development Bank. The loan term is 15 years, and the interest rate is set at market level.

According to the Minister of Finance, these loans will not burden the state budget, as the projects have high economic efficiency. In addition, part of the loans will be provided on concessional terms.

Experts believe that such borrowing will support Kazakhstan's economic growth. However, the increase in external debt may raise currency risks.

Kazakhstan's total external debt at the beginning of 2026 was about $160 billion. The new loan will increase this figure, but the government says it is capable of managing it.

Loan agreements are planned to be concluded by the end of this year. The first tranche of funds may arrive in the first quarter of 2027.
