According to the Bureau of National Statistics, as of August 1, 2026, the population of Kazakhstan was 20,604,819 people. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Over seven months (January-July), the country's population increased by 104,997 people. This growth is mainly due to natural increase and migration flows.
Gender distribution
According to statistical data, there are 10,531,747 women and 10,073,072 men living in the country. That is, there are about 458 thousand more women than men.
Urban and rural population
The majority of the population is concentrated in cities. As of August 1, more than 13.2 million people lived in urban areas. Since the beginning of the year, the number of urban residents has increased by 126,649 people.
The rural population, on the contrary, has decreased. During January-July, the number of people living in rural areas decreased by 21,652 people. Currently, about 7.4 million people live in rural areas.
Large cities and densely populated regions
The bulk of the population is still concentrated in large cities and densely populated regions. This trend indicates a continuing process of urbanization.
It is worth noting that earlier Kursiv reported that Kazakhstan became the only EAEU country with a drop in real wages.
