Kazakhstan's women's team secured their fifth victory at the 46th World Chess Olympiad in Uzbekistan. In round 5, our girls defeated the Germans 2.5:1.5. The men drew with the Estonians 2:2. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Fifth victory for the women's team
With each round, the opponents for our girls become more serious. Germany, like Kazakhstan, had won all matches in Samarkand until today. And by additional indicators, they even occupied a higher place. 6th versus our 9th.
Kamalidenova's decisive contribution
The winning point for our team was brought by Meruert Kamalidenova. On the third board, the 21-year-old international master forced the 31-year-old women's grandmaster Hanna-Marie Klek to capitulate on move 31.
Bibisara Assaubayeva, Alua Nurman and Elnaz Kaliakhmet, having drawn their games, provided the foundation for the team's fifth victory. The official tournament table after five rounds will be published later.

Draw for the men's team
The men's team of Kazakhstan lost a team point in the match against the Estonians. Sauat Nurgaliyev won with black against Kirill Chukavin, while Aldiyar Ansat lost with the same color pieces to Dion Krivenko. Denis Makhnev and Daniyal Sapenov did not extract dividends from the white color of their pieces.
A 2:2 draw will undoubtedly lower our team further in the tournament table. Before round 5, they occupied 46th place out of 150 participating teams.

About the tournament
398 teams, 1974 chess players, 240 grandmasters are participating in the 46th World Chess Olympiad in Samarkand.
The tournament is held according to the Swiss system in 11 rounds. Each team consists of 4 players and 1 reserve. The time control is classical – 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, plus another 30 minutes. After each move, 30 seconds are added.
For a victory in a match, a team receives two team points, for a draw – one. In case of equal points, additional indicators come into force — the Berger coefficient (the number of points scored by opponents), as well as the sum of individual points of each team member.
The winners of the men's tournament are awarded the Lord Frederick Gustavus Hamilton-Russell Cup, the women's – the Vera Menchik Cup. The federation that became the best by the smallest sum of places of both teams is awarded the Nona Gaprindashvili Cup.
