Kazakhstan's women's handball team won their final match at the 2026 Asian Games against Uzbekistan – 35:20 (15:9). This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

Throughout the match, Marina Pikalova's charges controlled the flow of the game. Our girls made the decisive acceleration in the middle of the first half, changing the score from 6:5 to 11:5. Team captain Irina Khasakhanova scored two goals in that span. Zhanerke Seitkasym, Veronika Khardina and Aida Zhaparova each scored once.

Having won the first half with a six-goal advantage (15:9), the Kazakhs played even more freely after the break. And they secured a confident victory – 35:20. Khasakhanova, Aida Zhaparova and Zhanerke Kuandykova each scored six goals in the end. Goalkeepers Damira Zhaparova and Zhannat Aitenova once again delighted with many excellent saves.

Having played all the tournament matches, our handball players rose to third place with six points. True, the Chinese have played two matches fewer. They need to beat outsiders Hong Kong and Vietnam to intervene in the medal race.

Kazakhstan's handball players twice, in 2002 and 2006, became vice-champions. At the 2014 Asian Games, our girls won bronze.

The XX Summer Asian Games officially opened on September 19 and will end on October 4. In competitions with the participation of athletes from 45 countries, 460 sets of awards are being contested. Kazakhstan's national team at the 2026 Asian Games includes 558 athletes in 35 sports.

On the first day of the Games, Kazakhstanis won four gold medals. Cyclists Rinata Sultanova and Alexey Lutsenko, as well as karatekas Zholaman Bigabyl and Sofya Berultseva, became champions of the Games. The fifth gold was added to the team's tally by MMA fighter Yerkingali Burkutalin. The sixth – by his teammate in mixed martial arts Kadyrbek Shynbayev. On September 23, Lutsenko became a two-time champion of the 2026 Asian Games. The eighth gold medal was won on September 24 by rowers Vladislav Yakovlev and Ivan Chernukhin in the men's coxless pairs competition.

After six days of the Games, Kazakhstan was in fourth place in the unofficial medal standings.
